About Mid Ulster Hospital MIU
The Minor Injury Unit at Mid Ulster Hospital is on Hospital Road in Magherafelt, County Londonderry, operated by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT). It runs a "Phone First" model — patients must call 0300 123 1 123 (text relay 18001 0300 123 1 123) Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm, to be triaged and given an appointment. The unit itself is open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, and is closed at weekends. It treats patients aged 5 and over with sprains, strains, suspected broken bones from shoulder to hand or knee to toe, minor facial injuries (no loss of consciousness), wounds, cuts, grazes, scalp lacerations, minor scalds and burns, foreign bodies (skin, eyes, ears, nose) and minor head injuries in under-65s with no loss of consciousness, vomiting, headache or confusion. Important: it does NOT treat patients on blood-thinning medication (warfarin, aspirin), elderly patients with complex needs or recurrent falls, or anyone who has fallen from height — for these and all life-threatening problems call 999 or attend the Emergency Department at Antrim Area Hospital. The site also provides day surgery and outpatient services. The Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Mid Ulster Hospital in Magherafelt operates a Phone First system — call 0300 123 1 123 before attending.
